Recently, the Calots held a Zoom discussion about "The Land That Time Forgot" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. One member mentioned that it might be Burroughs' best title, leading to a debate about other hidden gems within the author's canon.
To put this idea to the test, the Calots have decided to hold an "ERB March Title Madness Event" where fans from around the world can vote for the author's best title from a Sweet 16 list. This Sweet 16 will be compiled from a poll of Calots Membership (Selection Committee), as it is, after all, our competition.
ERB March "Title" Madness will be a bracket tournament. The tournament will consist of 16 ERB titles competing in two rounds, a semi-final, and a final single-elimination bracket. Starting March 3rd, FANS can vote for a single title in each matchup during each round's scheduled voting period. Winning Titles advance until there are only Two.
ERB March "TITLE" Madness Schedule
First round: March 3-7
Second round: March 8-10
Semi Final (Final Four) 12-15
ERB Title Championship: March 16-17
Winner Announced Monday, March 18
ERB March "Title" Madness should be a great opportunity for ERB fans to engage in lively and fun-filled debates about their favorite book titles. However, it's important to remember that this is a title contest, not a book contest. Therefore, it would be helpful to focus on the identifying and descriptive aspects of the book title, rather than the composition itself. We encourage individuals to campaign for their favorite titles and think creatively about what makes a title stand out and capture the essence of the book. By doing so, we can foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the role that book titles play in attracting readers and creating meaningful connections between our favorite author and his audience.

It is understandable that games and contests can generate strong emotions and opinions. However, for the current tournament, we would like to emphasize that the primary objective is to provide an enjoyable and thought-provoking activity for members of the ERB community. While we have plans for expanding the scope and inclusivity of future tournaments, we believe that starting with a simple and fun format is a good way to gauge interest and gather feedback. We appreciate everyone's participation and encourage everyone to approach the tournament with a collaborative and respectful attitude.
Finally, although the Carolina Calots is a chapter of the Burroughs Bibliophiles, this is a Calots-organized and sponsored event. The Burroughs Bibliophiles nor any companies or concerns related to the topic, product, or publications featured in this bracket tournament, are participating, endorsing, recommending, or favoring ERB March Title Madness 2024, or declaring that the results are in any way their opinions, beliefs, or views.
