Holy Cow! Before our March “Title” Madness begins, we decided to have some fun and put an AI system to the test by letting it pick the best titles from our ERB Sweet 16 match-ups. It was quite interesting to see what the system came up with, and the results might surprise you depending on your preferences.
However, remember, the ultimate test is the actual votes of Burroughs fans from around the world. Round 1 of our Bracket Tournament starts on Sunday, March 3 at 8:00 a.m. and runs until midnight on March 7. Then the Elite Eight voting starts at 8:00 a.m. on March 8.
If you are interested, the AI system's predictions for the best titles were intriguing, and they might spark some excitement and debate among fans. To get winners we kept it simple. Using a randomly chosen free AI offering, we entered the the following question: Which of these book titles is better:?
The Chessmen of Mars vs Out of Time’s Abyss – Winner: Out of Time’s Abyss
The Warlord of Mars vs Tarzan at the Earth’s Core – Winner: Tarzan at the Earth’s Core
Pirates of Venus vs The People that Time Forgot – Winner: Pirates of Venus
A Fighting Man of Mars vs The Land of Hidden Men – Winner: Fighting Man of Mars
The Gods of Mars vs Tarzan of the Apes – Winner: Tarzan of the Apes
Tarzan the Untamed vs A Princess of Mars – Winner: Tarzan the Untamed
Pellucidar vs The Land That Time Forgot – Winner: Pellucidar
At the Earth’s Core vs The Master Mind of Mars – Winner: The Master Mind of Mars
Does the spirit of Burroughs live in the binary codes of today’s artificial intelligent systems? It's fascinating to note that the algorithm measurements favored three Tarzan titles and advanced them. It is going to be fun to see just how the “living” votes compare to the electronic guesses. Round 1 starts March 3, and we're super excited to see what titles advance to the next round of the tournament.
